KPG Print & Digital Critique Night
These are the steps necessary for submitting digital and/or print images to the KPG Print & Digital Critique Night.
Photo Critique Guideline
Overview: Sharing, teaching and exploring all aspects of photography are key goals of the Kitsap Photography Guild. Our “Photo Critique Night” is one way we accomplish these goals. Each year three or four of our monthly meetings will be scheduled as a Photo Critique Night where members either bring mounted prints or submit digital images for sharing and critique. This guideline explains the purpose and procedures for Photo Critique Night and is intended for both KPG members and the person doing the critique.
Purpose: The most important thing to keep in mind is why we critique photos. The focus of critiquing is always to provide feedback that will help the photographer and the onlookers learn to take better photos. A critique is intended to help you gain valuable insights and to develop your own critical eye. It is also a great way to share your work with other members.
Philosophy:
It takes courage to show your work to club members and learn from critique. Keep in mind the person delivering the critique is merely trying to help you grow, and become a better photographer. It’s perfectly ok to disagree with the opinion, however, remember there is rarely any benefit in becoming defensive.
The club’s philosophy and desire is for Photo Critique Night to be a light-hearted and enjoyable way to share photos yet be a valuable educational tool.
Choosing Images:
When selecting images to be critiqued, you will benefit most by submitting your best work. You are encouraged to choose current images, rather than photos taken years ago, and please do not submit work that has been previously critiqued.
How Many Images:
You may enter both prints and digital, or all prints, or all digital, however, a total of no more than FOUR images are allowed. In the future, the maximum number of images may be changed based on the number of club members entering as well as the amount of time scheduled for the critiquing.
Digital Submissions:
Type: Submit only jpg files
Size: No larger than 1024 pixels on the long side will be accepted.
Name: Rename the files to be submitted using your name, date of the Photo Critique Night (yymm), a brief but unique title and GEN for General Submission & CAT for a Category Submission.
For example: JSmith_1004_Rainier Sunset_CAT or JSmith_1004_Child Portrait_GEN.
Your digital files shall not be used or distributed in any other way and all copies shall be promptly deleted after the Photo Critique Night.
Print Submissions:
Bring your prints to the Photo Critique Night. Prints should be mounted on foam core, poster board or other support for ease of viewing. Your prints may be displayed with a mat if you choose. The minimum print size shall be no smaller than 8 inches on the short side. Maximum print size shall be no more than 16 x 20 inches. The overall vertical dimension, including mat, must be no higher than 20 inches in order to fit in the club’s lighted print display stand.
Include a Note on the back with YOUR NAME & TITLE OF PRINT.
